Unfortunately, the first news I have to share with you is heartbreaking... Elmer Grape, husband of author Jan Grape and pillar of Austin's mystery
community, passed away just after Christmas.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 21st at 3:30 p.m. at Cook Walden Funeral Home in Pflugerville (14501 N. IH-35, 512-251-4118). Our hearts go out to you, Jan, as we remember Elmer... he will be much missed.

Mystery writer Jan Grape, author of Dark Blue Death, will be appearing at the Barnes & Noble Round Rock store on Saturday, February 4th
at 2:00 p.m. The store is located in the La Frontera Village at the intersection of IH 35 and 1325.
Double award winner Jan Grape has five mystery award nominations: the Edgar, Shamus, Anthony, Agatha, and the Mccavity. In 1998, she won an Anthony for Best Short Story, “A Front Row Seat” from Vengeance Is Hers, also nominated for a Shamus. She won a Mccavity for Deadly Women, a nonfiction book co-edited with Dean James, also nominated for an Edgar and an Agatha. Wow. What a list of awards. So please mark your calendars and plan to meet this fabulous author!

Time to get those manuscripts in tip-top shape! The SGWL is accepting entries in children's, novel,
poetry, short fiction and short nonfiction categories. The entry fee is $15.00, and manuscripts will be returned with the judges' comments. First prize is $50.00, second is $35.00, and third is $20.00 in

AMERICAN PSYCOTHERAPY ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCE MYSTERY WRITING CONTEST -- DEADLINE MAY 15
The Forensic Examiner and Annals of American Psychotherapy Association are announcing a new contest for mystery writers,
including a cash prize and opportunities for publications. Categories include True-Life Forensic Case Studies, Fictional Forensic Cases, True-Life Psychological Profile Case Studies, and Fictional
Psychological Cases. The top prize is $500 and publication in The Forensic Examiner or Annals; the deadline is May 15. For more information, go to www.mysterywriterscontest.com .
